A Holistic Approach to Sustainability

  • Experiential Learning: We believe in learning by doing. Our students have the opportunity to engage in hands-on experiences, internships, and research projects that directly address real-world sustainability challenges. It essentially includes but not limited to working with local communities on environmental challenges and solving the same through research contribution and student participation. our students gain practical experience that prepares them for the complexities of sustainability work.
  • Community Outreach: We encourage our students to engage with their local communities to make a tangible impact through service-learning initiatives, volunteering, and community projects. students address sustainability issues in their own backyards. They learn that change starts at home and that every action counts toward building a more sustainable world.

University Contributions

Good Health and Well-being:

United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) promote the notion ‘Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages’ through SDG 3. Good Health is essential to render any service to society and humanity. It is the very basic requirement of individual and irrespective of persons at any level in society must get access to quality health care services, sufficient and necessary education to promote awareness about health. In addition to that, clean environment, purity in resources, hygienic work environment are essential for achieving this goal. DIT University is committed to achieve this goal by providing necessary education, free access of healthcare services, awareness campaign and collaborative research work with Government and Non-Government agencies.

Clean Water and Sanitation:

Water is essential requirement of life. If water is pure it can sustain lifeforms on the other aspect, polluted water is the cause of disaster. UN SDG 6 promotes ‘Clean Water and Sanitation’ ensuring access to water and sanitation for all. All stakeholders of society are having the fundamental rights to access this resource in easily accessible and clean form. Also the society must ensure the water as resource must not be polluted by human activities. Wastage must be eradicated. At present, it is becoming very difficult to obtain sufficient quantity and good quality water. All this is due to unscientific usage. Also the resource is continuously diminishing at various sources and going out of access to certain sections of society. So it is our duty to ensure the sustainability of water through pollution mitigation, judicious usage and environmental awareness. DIT University promotes this objective through its policy of sustainable water usage, reuse of waste water, conservation principle and promoting same through research and outreach activities.

Affordable and Clean Energy:

The biggest challenge in modern society is to achieve ‘Net Zero Emission’ and to stop global warming duet to Green House Gas (GHG) Emissions. The tremendous exploitation of non-renewable resources like fossil fuels is causing irrecoverable harm to nature by emitting all sorts of air pollutants and GHGs. The result is continuous increase of global average temperature, ice sheet melting, abrupt climatic consequences. One stop solution is to switch to alternative clean and green energy sources like Solar, Wind, Water etc but not very easy with various economic, geologic and infrastructure reasons. However, society must continuously thrive to alternative energy resources through its technological advancement. UN SDG 7 promotes ‘Affordable and Clean Energy’ ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy. DIT University is in line with SDG 7 in making buildings with efficient energy rating appliances, using solar power at maximum usage, minimizing energy wastage and promoting new developments in green energy through research and collaboration activities.

Partnerships for the goals:

The advancement of the society in this age is only possible with mutual cooperation, collaboration, extending help to each section of the society and sharing of resources. The efficiency of achieving the SDGs become more while working in collaboration than an individual. This is true whether it is applicable for a person or an organization or a country. Wastage of resources must be zero and at the same time abundant resources must be generously shared with those not having access. This mutual cooperation is the fundamental principle of sustainability with involvement and participation of all. UN SDG17 aims to revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development. In line with UN SDG principle DIT University firmly believes in collaboration be it in research or resource sharing or implementation of its work culture not only inclusive but exclusive of University premises. The supportive and flexible work culture of DIT University essentially lies on the proposition of trust-integrity, employee engagement-opportunities, respect-fairness.
