The School of Design was established as an independent institution in 2024, having previously been a part of the School of Architecture, Planning, and Design since 2016.
This change was driven by the increasing demand to explore new frontiers in the design industry across a wide range of fields.
The school comprises of disciplines User Experience (UX), Visual Graphics and Animation (VGA), and Interior Design (ID). The School of Design is a vibrant hub of creativity, grounded in human-centric values that blend traditional problem-solving methods with modern design thinking tools.
Our mission is to nurture the next generation of design leaders, equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and mindset to excel in a rapidly changing technological landscape.
As the Dean of the School of Design, I find myself reflecting on the evolving landscape of design education in our increasingly interconnected world. The challenges and opportunities presented by the global pandemic have catalyzed profound changes in how we approach teaching and practice design.
This period of disruption has been a catalyst for innovation, urging us to rethink and reshape the future of design education. Today, we stand at the crossroads of tradition and innovation. As we integrate new technologies and methodologies into our curriculum, we are also mindful of the rich heritage of craft and creativity that forms the bedrock of our discipline.
The fusion of cutting-edge digital tools with traditional design sensibilities is preparing our students to enter the industry equipped with right skill set. Our students are encouraged to think beyond aesthetics and functionality to consider the environmental impact of their creations. This holistic approach to design is not just about creating objects or experiences that are visually appealing and functionally sound, but also about fostering a sustainable future.
Our vision is to cultivate global citizens who are socially and environmentally responsible, deeply attuned to sustainable community and ecological growth. We aim to develop a diverse set of competencies in our students, equipping them to pursue various pathways to holistic success, and preparing them to make impactful and meaningful contributions to society.
