    Reservoir Simulation

  • Research Interest

Reservoir Simulation, Shale Gas Reservoirs, Fractured Dual-Porosity Reservoirs, Numerical Modeling of Nonlinear Flow in Porous Media

  • Brief Profile

Mr. Abhishek Kumar joined the Department of Petroleum Engineering as an Assistant Professor in August 2024. With a rich blend of academia and practical experience spanning over two years, Abhishek is currently pursuing his PhD in Petroleum Engineering from IIT Madras. His educational journey also includes an MTech in Petroleum Engineering from RGIPT Raebareli and a BTech in Applied Petroleum Engineering from UPES Dehradun.

Abhishek’s academic and research interests centre upon numerical modeling of fluid flow in fractured conventional and unconventional gas reservoirs, with a particular focus on addressing nonlinearities in shale gas reservoir flow using finite volume methods. His research has been widely recognized, with numerous publications in academic journals and presentations at international conferences.

Before his current role, Abhishek Kumar has developed and taught courses in Reservoir Engineering, Reservoir Simulation, and Petroleum Production Engineering. He has also advised undergraduate students on research projects and thesis preparation, specifically on the application of the MRST tool for Reservoir Simulation and the SMT Kingdom for Seismic Data Interpretation.
