Clean Water and Sanitation

The world is having abundance of water resources but unfortunately majority of the available water sources are not suitable for utilizations as those are stored in ocean and salty and as far as present day technologies concerned still the desalination process to produce drinkable water is not cost effective and far from reach out for common people.

On the other hand, majority of fresh water which are stored in snow belt and glaciers are not directly accessible for humans. The available groundwater is not in same quantity and quality for utilization. In many places groundwater is too deeper to extract or the soil layers are not suitable for extraction. So only major utilization source is fresh water which are flowing through surface drainage in form streams and rivers or stored in natural lakes.

However, with rapid urbanization and industrializations these sources are diminishing. The available water is utilized for domestic consumption, agriculture and industrial purpose. However, due to increasing pollutant mixing the water continuously becoming unsuitable for utilization in these purposes. The situation is becoming disastrous day by day as people living below poverty lines and in slum areas are losing the access to basic clear water and sanitation.

Un hygienic conditions are increasing with population migration to cities, worst living standards, lifestyle below minimum hygiene. As situation worsens with hostile climatic conditions and global temperature rise people are being devoid of this fundamental life sustaining resources and many parts of the world face severe crisis to potable water.

The drainage system, sewerage systems have many failures duet to population blast and incapable management and adding more to worst hygienic conditions that lead to life threatening diseases and make the life standard further to fall down. In this context, UN SDG 6 directs to ensure clean water and sanitation. DIT University ensures maximum water conservation, 100% reuse of recycled water and minimizes water wastage through effective and state of art infrastructure and management of the water resources.
