About The Department

Department of Mathematics was established since the inception of Dehradun Institute of Technology (DIT) in 1998. Since then, the department has evolved and grown in several directions. The department has strongly motivated faculty with diverse specialization in Mathematical sciences providing expertise and building potential for pursuing research in basic sciences as well as in interdisciplinary areas of science, engineering and technology.

The department is committed to train the students to make them motivated and dedicated scientists and professionals. The department offers opportunities for the education and research in a wide spectrum of areas in Mathematics such as: Algebra and Analysis, Differential Equations and their applications, Scientific Computing, Numerical analysis, Differential Geometry, Cosmology, Fluid Dynamics, Statistics, Operations Research, Mathematical Modeling etc. To meet the latest demands of industry, the department keeps updating and revising its teaching pedagogies, research schemes and introduces new courses. The syllabi of both the undergraduate and postgraduate courses are designed to equip students to qualify various competitive exams such as GATE, UGC NET / SLET, etc. The department always imparts innovative and technological leading skills to the students through project based learning, navigation and one-to-one mentoring. The department is to orient the aspiring students for an overall development to enable them to meet the ever growing challenges of the global society with advanced mathematical tools such as MATLAB, MATHEMATICA, SPSS, LaTeX, R Programming.

HOD's Message

Warm Welcome to our extended family!

The Department of Mathematics is established in 1998. Over the last two and half decades, we have grown our expertise and competence in providing solutions to Engineering branches and established Bachelor, Masters & Ph.D. program in Mathematics. The Department offers following courses at UG & PG level: B.Sc. (Mathematics), B.Sc. (Hons.) Mathematics with Research, B.Sc. (Statistics), B.Sc. (Hons.) Statistics with Research, M.Sc. (Mathematics) & Ph.D (Mathematics).

The Department has proved its excellence in a short period by demonstrating leadership in the areas of Pure and Applied Mathematics. We have a team of well qualified, experienced and motivated faculty members to prepare the young minds for global competition. The faculty members regularly publish Research Papers in International Journals with high Impact Factors. The faculty train the students with strong Fundamentals of Theory and Practice of Mathematics. Mathematics and Statistics form the backbone of knowledge enhancement for Scientists and Engineers. Keeping this in view, our focus is to equipped our students with Modern Mathematical Tools and having a strong understanding of Real-World Problems. We strive to inculcate Analytical and Logical skills in Future Researchers by Outcome Based Teaching-Learning Practices.

On behalf of the Department of Mathematics, I welcome you all to be a part of our department. We, as a Department, are committed to imparting knowledge, and nurturing young minds. We look forward to being one important factor in your growth.

Mission

  • To work towards transformation of young people to competent and motivated professionals with sound theoretical and practical knowledge.
  • To encourage students to conduct student projects to develop their analytical and logical thinking.
  • To inculcate in students the ability to apply mathematical and computational skills to model, formulate and solve real life problems.
  • To make students capable of discharging professional, social and economic responsibilities ethically.
  • To produce post graduate students with strong foundation to join research or to serve in industry.
  • To make students aware of technology to explore mathematical concepts through activities and experimentation.
  • To conduct faculty training programme through invited talks or workshops.

Vision

To be among the best mathematics Departments in the country and to establish an international reputation as a centre for research and teaching in mathematics and also to centre stage Mathematical knowledge in the curriculum; instill analytical and logical thinking among students and promote Mathematical thought as an important area of human thought.

Career opportunity

Career opportunities after B.Sc. (Hons.) Mathematics with Research and B.Sc. (Hons.) Statistics with Research

With B.Sc. (Honours) Mathematics and B. Sc. (Honours) Statistics students can pursue their careers in research and development, engineering, banking etc. After completion of B.Sc. (Honours) degree, there are various options available for the students: they can go for various masters program such as M.Sc. Mathematics, M. Tech Computer Applications, M.Tech Atmospheric Sciences etc, go for research oriented jobs and can even look for professional jobs which involve mathematical modelling and predictive analysis. Jobs for B.Sc. graduates are not restricted in the field of science but also they can explore other areas like banking, management, engineering, law etc. The job opportunities available for the students are not only great in terms of salary package, but also a satisfying job experience. Apart from the research jobs, students can also work or get jobs in Marketing, Business & other technical fields. Mathematics graduates are also recruited in the banking sector to work as customer service executives and software operations experts.

Career opportunities after M.Sc. Mathematics and Ph.D. Mathematics

This course gives Mathematics enthusiasts a chance to develop their mathematical and communication skills and apply critical thinking that would help them to interpret scientific data collected from various sources. This skill set is always a boon to scientific researchers. One can apply in government and private colleges/universities to pursue his teaching carrier. The minimum requirement is M.Sc. Mathematics and UGC-CSIR NET exam for lectureship and JRF. One can go for jobs in prominent national organizations like DRDO, ISRO, NTPC, ONGC and ISS. At the same time one can also look out for the national laboratories and institutes.
